Dramatis Personae

The Story

We do some more conversation/experimentation and eventually decide to Swarm Grenade the fungal mass (6d6 damage is pretty undeniable). With the fungal mass destroyed and breathable atmosphere restored, we decide to enact some vengance on the rustbearers below.

A few are still milling about outside, looking at the fallen chunks of fungus and the almost-person we dropped down below them before, so Sepsis and Kyriil open fire from the catwalk outside, killing one and wounding another. In the return volley, Kyriil gets hit and drops to 0hp. Thankfully, he keeps med patches in his coat pocket, so Sepsis pops on on him and one on himself before the rest of the plan commences.

There are a few pairs of rappelling gear on the lift (emergency backups in case of a mechanical failure of the elevator) so some of us decide to rappel down the elevator shaft to the broken elevator while the rest rappel down the outside of the atmosphere processor to catch the fungus folk inside off-guard. Jimbro and Sepsis rappel down the elevator shaft, covered by Kyriil, while Hylock descends the outside alone.

Shots ring out and ping off of the bottom of the elevator platform, which prompts Sepsis to return fire with a swarm grenade, which drops down the rest of the elevator shaft and explodes in the face of a few grunts, killing one and wounding others.

At this point, Sepsis and Jimbro are stuck on the elevator platform; they can't go back up or they'd get shot, and they can't keep descending or they'd get shot. So they hang out for a bit while Kyriil descends the atmosphere structure and Hylock lands quietly on the outside.

The next round goes similarly, more bullets hit the bottom of the elevator platform, Sepsis and Jimbro fire back blindly, and Kyriil lands on the ground without issue. Then, Kyriil and Hylock sneak around the sides of the atmosphere processor, trying to pinch the people inside on the next round of combat.

The next round of combat comes and stuff starts to happen! Hylock throws our last swarm grenade at the gaggle of fungus fuckers clustered up around the elevator shaft, killing 2 and sending another into a panic. Kyriil lays down some suppressive fire on the inner group to let Sepsis and Jimbro out of the elevator hatch. At this point, there are only 2 Fungus fuckers including the captain remaining inside and 2 outside. The captain, angry as hell, releases three volleys of attacks and... misses them all. The 2 outside start to wrap around the building towards Kyriil. Uh oh!

Sepsis and Jimbro descend down the elevator shaft, and Jimbro scores a gnarly hit on the captain as he lands. Kyriil fires more to suppress the 2 fungus friends outside. Hylock, remembering that this game has magic in addition to sick ass guns and grenades, steps out and casts Chromatic Projection on the Captain, basically vaporizing the captain. The remaining rustbearer inside the atmosphere processor, who has thus far been too scared to act, retreats into the suppressive fire Kyriil is doing and is killed bigly. The two rustbearers Kyriil was suppressing realize that the rest of their group has had their vital signs suppressed and beat a hasty retreat. Hell Yeah!

We collect their gear and search their belongings, recovering 7 precision rifles and 3 slime-mold grenades. Score!

We beat a quick retreat to town, sell the rifles, and go throw another show to share our exploits!

Thoughts

Lots of combat this session. It's a little trickier to do combat with firearms, I think. Things like suppressive fire are obviously super effective but might detract from the pulp tone someone is going for where they leap over the sandbags with a greatsword and cut someone in half. Splitting the area into zones is also more important I think, since basically everyone has a ranged weapon in contrast to a more traditional fantasy thing where the only thing that usually matters is where the combat cloud is. Visual aids like maps and tokens are a lot more useful in games like these than they have been in the past for me while playing fantasy stuff.
